All our lives we do our best to earn a blessing for ourselves. And the “American dream” tells us that we need to work our way to the top and prove to everyone that we’ve earned our right to be there. But that is foolishness. No matter how hard we try, what we are really looking for in life cannot be acquired through earning or manipulation. 

Jacob lived his life like this - he manipulated his circumstances and swindled people out of their blessing so that he could take it from them. That was how he lived, until he met God. And he met God in an unexpected way... via a wrestling match.
